Everyone deserves a beautiful smile, but missing teeth can drastically affect the aesthetics and functionality of your teeth. You may have difficulty eating or talking, or you may feel less confident about your appearance. If this is the case, dental implants from Desert Dental may be the right choice for you.

What Is the Biggest Benefit of Dental Implants?

The main reason to choose dental implants is because they are the most durable way to replace missing teeth. Like natural teeth, they use the jawbone for support, instead of healthy teeth (like dental bridges). This feature makes the implant more durable, and it prevents healthy teeth from taking the extra wear and tear, which is unavoidable with dental bridges.

Dental implants are also more durable because the titanium used fuses to the jawbone.

How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?

Dental implants are expensive, but they are an investment in your smile because they last along time. On average, you'll spend  at least $2,400  for a single dental implant, but that does not include any extra procedures, which may be necessary, such as an extraction. Dental insurance does cover the cost of dental implants, but they may cover only some of the additional necessary procedures.

How Long Is Treatment?

If you do choose dental implants, expect along treatment time because the process can take months until the implant is ready.

First, if your jawbone is weakened from many missing teeth, it may not be strong enough to support an implant, so a bone graft may be needed. When the jawbone is strong enough, the titanium artificial root can be placed, and it may take up to six months for this area to heal enough for the crown to be placed.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

You need a healthy mouth to get a dental implant, including a strong jawbone, which may require a bone graft. Unfortunately, many people have missing teeth and weak jawbones due to gum disease. If your gum disease is untreated,a dental implant is not recommended because gum disease increases the risk of implant failure. You are not a good candidate if you:

  • Are a smoker
  • Are pregnant
  • Have a chronic disease, such as uncontrolled diabetes
  • Abuse Alcohol or drugs

Individuals with a healthy mouth, including healthy teeth, jawbone, and gums, are generally great candidates for implants.

How Many Teeth Can Be Replaced?

Dental implants area great choice if you are missing a single tooth, but they are also great if you are missing all your teeth. However, if you are missing multiple teeth, implant-supported bridges and implant-supported dentures may be a better choice.

Because the artificial teeth are connected, implant-supported bridges and implant-supported dentures can replace many missing teeth with fewer titanium posts, which saves you money. Single implants and implant-supported bridges are not removable, but implant-supported dentures can be removed for easy cleaning.

How Do You Care for Your Implant?

You care for your implant the same way you'd care for natural teeth: by keeping it healthy. Try to avoid grinding your teeth, which can put extra stress on the implant. You'll also want to keep your mouth clean by continuing to brush and floss like usual.

Even if you replace all your teeth with dental implants, you must keep your gums clean from plaque, tartar, and bacteria to reduce the risk of per implant disease, which if left untreated, increases the risk of implant failure.

With dental implants from Desert Dental, you don't have to struggle with missing teeth anymore. If you have healthy gums and want a durable way to replace missing teeth, dental implant scan give you the beautiful smile you've always wanted.
